Welcome to Third Grade
.
December 11, 2011
Dear Parents,
It’s hard to believe next week is our last school week in the year 2011. We have many activities going on next week. Students will be practicing for the Christmas program, the Advent ceremony, class Christmas party, and participating in the Christmas program at 7pm on Thursday.
Next Week at a glance:
Reading: Next week we will begin a new unit “Imagination”. The first story is a realistic fiction story. John’s grandfather can not see but uses his other senses to enrich his life. We will have a reading test and spelling test next week. Spelling and reading tests will be on Thursday. There will be no homework on Thursday night.
Math: We are continuing to focus on multiplication skills. Daily practice of facts at home is required. Start with doubles(x2) and then work on x1, x5, and x 10. Once those multiplication facts are mastered they need to move on to the even numbers, then odd. Here are a few rhymes to help with memorizing times:
6x6 picked up sticks and became 36
6x7 tied their shoes and became 42
8x8 opened the door and saw the number 64
9x9 saw how it was done and became 81
Students can also make up there own rhymes to help.
Religion: The students are preparing for our Advent play
(Friday), and reading about Christ’s birth.
FYI
- No study skills and Title 1 class next Thursday!
- Parents please check your child’s lunch- three times this week we have had snacks (granola bars) that have been processed with tree nut and/or peanuts. This is a safety issue and those lunch items can not be eaten in our classroom
- If your child is not going to be here next Friday please let me know ASAP, I have information to give to them before they leave for Christmas break
- Please have your child dress for the weather: waterproof coat, long pants, sweatshirt, hats, gloves, and waterproof shoes
- If your child needs to leave during the day or will be not be coming to class please give me advanced notice so I can be prepared to send work home. If I am notified late I can not provide you with your child’s work.
- The school Christmas program begins at 7:00PM. Students need to arrive by 6:45PM.The doors to St Joes’ will open at 6:30PM. Students must stay with the teacher until the end of the program. Parents need to come and get their children after the program is over.
- Class party is Friday, 9:30-10:15AM
- We are running low on Clorox wipes- if you have extra at home please donate a tub to our class as we use them daily at lunch
- Friday dismissal is at 12
Have a wonderful weekend,
Mary Moa-Walsh
